  1. diagnosis: noun: a medical opinion given after studying a patient's symptoms.  According to the doctor's diagnosis, my injured ankle would heal in three months.
  2. jaunty: adjective: displaying a carefree, self-confident manner. It was obvious from his jaunty walk that he was feeling good about the day's events.
  3. tumultuous: adjective: full of upheaval; wild and chaotic. There was a tumultuous sea battle between the pirate ships.
  4. query: noun: a question; verb: to raise a question. The teacher wrote a query in the margin of my paper. She queried me about the dates I had included.

Tuesday: Write 10 sentences using at least 10 spelling words.
Wednesday: Grammar worksheet
Thursday: Write each vocabulary word in a sentence. Study for Spelling and Vocabulary Test.
Friday: SPELLING & VOCABULARY TEST today.

  1. artifact: noun: a man-made object from the past. The nuseum was filled with pottery, weapons, and other artifacts from early civiliaztions.
  2. congenial: adjective: having a pleasant personality. The tour guide was both knowledgeable and congenial, making our time in San Francisco interesting and fun.
  3. mutter: verb: to speak in a low, unclear way, barely moving the lips. We lose points on our oral reports if we mutter when we speak.
  4. metamorphosis: noun: a complete change in form, appearance, or character. After its metamorphosis, the caterpillar becomes a butterfly.

Vocabulary
  1. tousled: adjective: in a tangled mass. Her hair was tousled after riding in the convertible.
  2. perceive: verb: to become aware of something by experiencing it through the senses. We could barely perceive the bird's song over the roar of the waterfall.
  3. overwhelmed: verb: overpowered or made helpless. adjective: burdened or loaded with an excess of something.  Huge waves overwhelmed the boat. The sailors were overwhelmed with relief when the Coast Guard came to rescue them.
  4. fluctuate: verb: to shift back and forth uncertainly. The weather seemed to fluctuate daily, which made it hard to schedule the beach party.
